In Kibana today, we show an interstitial page upon first entry. Outside of welcoming our new users, we also need to provide notice for telemetry in self-managed clusters. We'll need to update the interstitial page behavior in a few ways.

image

  • Switch the primary CTA for adding data to route to the new add data page
  • Remove the interstitial welcome page when onboarding in Cloud and default to the new add data page ([Getting Started] Default to new add data page #94179)
  • Make the only CTA for the interstitial page "get started" or "add data" to provide a similar experience to Cloud and mimic the empty view for an empty state in overview pages
  • Remove the interstitial page from new spaces (existing bug)

@VijayDoshi @ryankeairns I feel like we briefly discussed these points, but probably worth coming to a final decision. fwiw, I like it

@alexfrancoeur I flagged all the [GS] issues as global/navigational search, but now that I'm reading them, I think it's actually another meta?

Yep, this [GS] actually refers to Getting Started as opposed to Global Search.

I noticed this as I was completing these issues. Are you automating this @pgayvallet ? We've been externally calling global search navigational search, maybe we switch to [NS] or [Navigational Search] as a tag? I'll update my titles to be more specific.

Sounds good to me, better have the tag and internal name be the same as the public name of the feature. Will rename the old Global Search tag

[NS] or [Navigational Search]

Let's use the full form. Many domain names can be reduced to NS (Notifications service, for example 😅 ) or GS, which can lead to conflicts.
