Vector Maps #1971
Comments
Do you mean the map you supplied with two letter country codes and it shaded the whole country based on frequency? I miss that too! |
Yes that one thats the bettermap and the other one as well (map) On Wed, Nov 19, 2014 at 6:39 AM, jimmyjones2 [email protected]

I changed the title of this to vector maps, although the specific ask is unclear. if you could please provide a more complete description of what you are looking for it would be immensely helpful. |
I've got records with IP addresses tagged with ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes (from logstash geoip countrycode2) and would like to see which countries are communicated with most visually on a map. The country here is key, even if the geo was 1km from the border, it would be attributed to that country and not ever be merged with one 1km on the other side of the border. Also make sense for IP geo as lat/lon can be inaccurate, but country geo is excellent. Kibana 3 had a vector map for this, which didn't need access to tiles, so may help with some #1902 use cases also. |
I have the same feedback. Kibana 3 had a basic chloropleth style map, which showed grouping by state (region code) or country code. for example: I do like the current map, but it has a slightly different use case versus the maps above. |
So may I ask what happened with the map? I, too, would like to be able to use my two letters country code field for a map like the one that was included in Kibana3, and without using the geoip values. Is this possible? Thank you. |
+1 - We also need the old feature from Kibana 3. In our usecase we don't know the ip-adresses or Geo-Coordinates. But for our client it's very important to separate the data by country (market). So, it would be very helpful for us if the old feature is also avaliable in Kibana 4 |
We too used the old Kibana 3 vector map a lot to visualise data by country code. Not only that, we filtered by it too by clicking on the country. |

I am also missing the country code based map in Kibana 4. |

+1, request this features in kibana 4 (based on country code) |

+1 on country code based map. |
+1, from our side too! Would love this feature! |
+1 from my side. |

I'm also missing this (great) feature. |
It would be great to have this feature again. |
+1, I miss that too |
+1, good feature and kibana4 should have it |
Does anyone have a workaround/way to add this with another tool? Do I need to run kibana3 or is this on the roadmap at all? I'm specifically looking for a US state based choropleth. |
+1 |
I believe rather than just country code it would be great if the map component could work with a shapefile for example in GeoJson format + a definition of which field should be used for matching results and shapes. That could be used for countries but also administrative regions or even city parts. @rashidkpc we would have actually some development capacity here, our devs have looked at the code and were worried about the "don't write plugins!" warnings. if interested any guidance on how Kibana should currently be extended would be very welcome. |
What was the reason behind removal of vector map from Kibana? Probably as a developer of jVectorMap, plug-in which was used for these maps I could help to resolve some issues with it? |
@bjornd Just hasn't been ported from Kibana 3 to 4 |
@ni-ka +1 Shapefile would be great, but we'll also need the separation by country. |
+1 from me too :) |
OK, so it seems the LeafletJS feature of the map CAN do choropleth http://leafletjs.com/examples/choropleth.html Possibly an easy modification to just enable it ? PRETTY PLEASE ?! |

Any news, plans to this very old issue? Still missing this feature from Kibana 3. |
You can find a crude implementation of such a component here: https://github.com/snuids/jVectorMapKibanaCountry/wiki
So this implementation can fill the gap until the ES team proposes something different. |
We should include the Map component form kibana 3 the new one is great however the grouping of the data was really helpful.
