.This rule detects attempts to upload objects to an AWS S3 bucket from an unauthenticated source. Such activity may indicate a misconfigured S3 bucket policy that allows public write access. Adversaries can exploit this misconfiguration to upload malicious content, exfiltrate data, or abuse the bucket as part of their attack infrastructure.
The rule triggers when a rare IP address, not seen in the past 7 days, attempts to upload an object (
PutObject
