It provides a precise breakdown of costs based on filament usage, electricity, printer wear and tear, and shipping. Additionally, it supports customizable profit margins and currency switching, making it ideal for hobbyists and professionals alike.

Before using the FDM Cost Calculator, ensure you have the following installed:
- Rust: Download and install the latest stable version of Rust from the official website.
- Cargo: Included with Rust, Cargo is the package manager for this project.

Clone the Repository:
git clone https://github.com/dmriding/fdm_cost_calculator.git cd fdm_cost_calculator

Build the Project: Use Cargo to download dependencies and compile the project:
cargo build

Run the Application: Launch the app with:
cargo run
The FDM Cost Calculator GUI will open, ready for use.

Download the Binary:
- Go to the Latest Release and download the appropriate binary for your operating system.

Windows Users:
After downloading the.exe
file, you might see a security warning when trying to run it. To unblock the file:- Right-click on the
.exe
file. - Select Properties.
- In the General tab, look for the message:
"This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer." - Check the box for Unblock and click OK.
- You can now run the application by double-clicking the file.

Linux/macOS Users:
- Extract the binary (if compressed).
- Open a terminal and navigate to the directory containing the binary.
- Run the application with:
./fdm_cost_calculator
If you encounter any issues, please report them in the Issues section.
- Filament Details:
- Specify cost per kilogram, brand, material, weight (grams), and carbon-based status (if applicable).
- Electricity:
- Enter your local electricity rate (e.g., EUR/kWh) and your printer’s wattage (W).
- Print Time:
- Provide the estimated time required for the print in hours.
- Markup and Shipping:
- Adjust the markup percentage for profit margins and include shipping costs.
- Toggle between Single-Color Mode and Multi-Color Mode.
- In Multi-Color Mode, add up to 16 materials with detailed individual cost inputs.
Click the currency button to cycle through USD ($), EUR (€), and GBP (£). All costs will update to reflect the selected currency.
Once all inputs are provided, click Calculate to compute:
- Total Cost: Combines filament, electricity, wear and tear, and shipping costs.
- Suggested Price: Calculates a selling price based on your chosen profit margin.
- Wear and Tear Cost: Estimates the maintenance and depreciation costs of your printer during the print job.
