I missed the response to my original comment. I should have been clearer that the use of the http backend was only an example. Using terraform state pull should work for any backend (not just http) as it allows terraform itself to retrieve the state from the configured backend and send to stdout.

Yeh you are right when I wrote it I thought the same I'll rewrite it to make it clear #184
