If a task fails, the CP's task progress icon will turn into a red circle. When you click on it, it will show the task that was running and a "Failed" status. If you want to find out why, currently you have to search through craft/storage/runtime/logs/craft.log for the error. It would be nice if that error was exposed in the CP as well.

Another nice detail regarding tasks with errors would be the ability to help undo the stuck task from the CP. Currently, the following help article helps us take a few steps to update the database and then rerun the task (http://buildwithcraft.com/help/stuck-tasks). It would be nice if there was an option from the stuck task dropdown to make that database update via the CP instead of manually.
