Add ability to remove container and all its dependents #10360
Comments
Thanks for reaching out! @mheon WDYT?
I find the last wrapped error confusing in that context. |
Sounds fine (finally get to include a recursive flag!) but will be a fair
amount of work. The code for recursive start was already written, but the
recursive start code is not.

I don't really like using force here. |

I would prefer --depend over recurse. |

@mheon Are you still working on this issue? Any progress? |
Is this issue still available? I'd be up for taking a swing at it. |
Sure, if you want to, you can take it. |

@jesselang Did you ever get a chance to work on this? |
Apologies, no. I'm afraid I won't be able to get to it anytime soon. Feel free to hand it out to someone. |
This option causes Podman to not only remove the specified containers but all of the containers that depend on the specified containers. Fixes: containers#10360 Also ran codespell on the code Signed-off-by: Daniel J Walsh <[email protected]>
Hello @rhatdan I am wondering if this I am in the case where I am running Docker containers thanks to Podman. Thanks |
Open a new issue for this. |
Is this a BUG REPORT or FEATURE REQUEST? (leave only one on its own line)
/kind feature
Description
I would like to be able to remove a container along with all of its dependent containers.
Steps to reproduce the issue:
podman create --name=alpha docker.io/alpine
podman create --name=bravo --net=container:alpha docker.io/alpine
podman rm -f alpha
Describe the results you received:
Describe the results you expected:
alpha
andbravo
containers are removedAdditional information you deem important (e.g. issue happens only occasionally):
While this would be really helpful when I'm working at the CLI, I also have a goal to let Ansible's
podman_container
restart a container with dependencies when necessary (e.g. image has been updated). In that case, later steps in the playbook will be creating/updating the dependent containers anyway.I'm not married to
--force
being the switch used to do this, a new switch could be used.Output of
podman version

podman info --debug

rpm -q podman
orapt list podman
):Have you tested with the latest version of Podman and have you checked the Podman Troubleshooting Guide? (https://github.com/containers/podman/blob/master/troubleshooting.md)
