I think errors can be i) typos or ii) actual misspellings:

• Typos depend a lot on keyboard layouts, whether they are physical or virtual keyboards. I don't know of any tools to suggest typos based on keyboard layouts, taking into account more or less frequent layouts such as Dvorak and of course all the layouts used around the world. Tools usually rely on distances such as Damerau-Levenshtein, Jaro-Winkler, Jaccard or N-Gram, but do not ponder frequency of keyboard layouts.
• Misspellings depend on the linguistic background of writers. For example, misspellings of English native speakers, which may be related to English pronunciation (chimmeny->chimney), are different from misspellings of French native speakers, which may be related to different spellings of words of French or common origin (cheminey->chimney). I don't know of any tools to suggest misspellings, taking into account more or less frequent linguistic backgrounds.

It is hard to take into account all keyboard layouts and all possible linguistic backgrounds to generate all possible typos, or better, all probable typos. Therefore, it is hard to give “theoretical” advice. The best course of action is of course pragmatic – look into actual misspellings in the wild. Search huld in GitHub and Google. Is it only a typo of hold or held, or also of other words? Hell, it could even be a keyword in some obscure programming language, a proper noun, or a registered trademark (https://huld.io) – in addition to germanic Huld.

I don't know if corpuses of words (and misspellings) with occurrences, such as the ones visibly used by Google, GitHub or the Cambridge Dictionary, are freely available. Their online tools have or should have DDoS defence mechanisms, and most probably terms of use that are incompatible with direct use by third-party spelling tools.
