(If there is no-skunkworks approach, here is my jotting.)

The idea is to completely redesign the front page (now only a stub):

  • css: arXiv -> bootstrap
    • I understand the nostalgia, but it is a wrong reason here
    • of course bootstrap is a starting point (nomen omen), not necessarily - the end goal
  • UI:
    • KISS - it should be obvious from the first click how it works (fortunately, in our case it is easy)
    • things everything important should be seen on the first page (more pages only for extra info, like scrolling G+)
    • it should take one click to get to the actual paper page/pdf and the same - to get to the original discussion
      • aggregation of recommendations per topic, person or tag are our secondary function (from the user's perspective)
    • Title of the paper, instead of the first sentence (which is jusually "noise")
  • New Users
    • It should be useful from first click (without singing in or "G+circling" anyone)
    • For new users, all recent recommendations should be visible (to be filtered by tags or people)

Side notes, when it comes to UI:

As of now it looks ugly, but will be getting better, hopefully:
