This script contains a simple Javascript class called ColorScale. One can instantiate this class with four arguments, a starting colour and an ending color - which together define the scale - and a lower and upper bound. Then, the objects .getColor(value) method will return the appropriate colour for the supplied value, relative to the bounds defined in instantiation. ColorScale will support 6 digit hexidecimal notation, including the hash (#) prefix and the rgb notation used in CSS. For example, #505050 or rgb(100, 100, 100). Usage: var scale = new ColorScale("#ffff00", "#ff0000", 0, 100); var color = scale.getColor(50); // This will return the string "#ff7f00". For creating a heatmap, for example, one might use: var data = [ {london: 56}, {leeds: 40}, {luton: 12} ] var scale = new ColorScale("#ffff00", "#ff0000", 0, 100); for (var location in data) { shadeMapSegment(location, scale.getColor(data[location])); }
