I'm strongly against the notion that the secretaries are elected. The secretaries are the folks who actually do most of the boring work (especially the due diligence). History suggests that these roles do not get done by those who support CF "for fun" (i.e. it is not part of their core institutional role).

Currently I fund both of them, and I do that partly with core fund and partly with grant funds. I do it because I believe the CF conventions are important to NCAS, both our science, and our data management. I don't know how that would work if they were "elected".
