Description

Users can't install extensions since the latest stable release.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Visit Chrome Web Store.
  2. Find a random extension.
  3. Try to install that extension.

Actual result:

sbD06rZff1

Expected result:

Users should be able to install the extension easily, just like before the latest update.

Looks like Google changed something on their end as this is reproducible on previous releases as well. We're looking into the issue and will try getting a fix out ASAP 👍 Thanks for the report!

@Tonev there was a server side issue on our end which has been resolved. This should be working now 👍 I just tried it several times and installed several extensions without any issues.

@AlbertArulPrakash @VenomFate-619 @Shrikantpaliwal can you check your version of Brave? and update if needed? If you're on an older one, the extension will fail to install as we made a change to our component update server

@AlbertArulPrakash OK that is definitely old - you're going to want to update please 😄 Our current release version is 1.32; The version you're running (1.20) is from February 2021 (10 months old basically). Lots of security fixes since then (and new features)

Updating the browser solves the issue, had the same issue with me then realized I was having ver 1.25

I've encountered the same issue with an older brave version, after i upgraded, the issue went away.

@DenizenK @romulomourao could you both maybe post info of your brave browser versions and operating systems?

@DenizenK @romulomourao mind sharing which versions you're using? You can check via brave://version. Current release is v1.34.80 Chromium: 97.0.4692.71 which was released last week. You can always check what the latest version is by checking https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/blob/master/CHANGELOG_DESKTOP.md.

@kjozwiak I thought I was using latest version, but then I realized that Ubuntu was not getting the most recent version from its repository...So I've downloaded directly from brave's website, now it's working fine

Awesome 👍 Great to hear it. Unfortunately Brave doesn't automatically get updated within the browser on Linux so it needs to be updated via the repository. Do you know which repository you were using by any chance? Following https://brave.com/linux will setup the correct repository. We always double check and make sure the latest version was correctly uploaded once we release so it's always up-to-date 👍

I had the same pb. with brave v1.27. Updating brave to v1.32.115 solved the pb.

What version of Brave are you running? Certain OS X versions have been dropped my Chromium as supported OS's so your OS might not be pulling the latest version of Brave. You can check which version you're running via brave://version. Should be at the top, similar to something like this:

Dissenter is based on Brave and the issue is there today with the NoScript extension and everything else, 2022 APR 8.
At https://noscript.net/getit/ the directions below worked to overcome the issue and at least install noscript-11.4.5rc1-chrome! Cannot find any other downloadable json folders of extensions, e.g. Ad-blocker-plus.

RC for Chromium
You can Download NoScript 11.4.5rc1 for Chromium-based browsers here.

In order to install this pre-release until the next stable version reaches the Chrome Store, you need to unzip it and load it as an unpacked extension in developer mode.

Please follow these steps:

Open the Extension Management page by navigating to chrome://extensions. Alternatively, open this page by clicking on the Extensions menu button and selecting Manage Extensions at the bottom of the menu. Alternatively, open this page by clicking on the Chrome menu, hovering over More Tools then selecting Extensions
Enable Developer Mode by clicking the toggle switch next to Developer mode.
Unzip the zipped "noscript-11.4.5rc1-chrome.zip" package to a directory of your choice.
Click the [Load unpacked] button and select the extension directory you've unzipped the extension to (the one containing the "manifest.json" file)
You're done. Happy testing!

I have seen this isssue many times but didn't fix properly but if you want add xyz extension in ur brave browser you need to Download crx file for the xyz extesnion and drag and drop in the brave

A/A "Seeing the same issue again!" and no explanation on how to bypass by installing a crx.... am presently Googling but yet to find a clear explanation...... all of this should just worked or be instantly updated so things work!!!!

hmmmm this worked - go to https://www.crx4chrome.com/crx/10734/ (NOTE PAGE MAY NOT BE ENTIRELY SAFE - no opinion either way - VISIT AT YOUR OWN RISK and I sincerely mean that - my blockers did not pop any warning bar on initial page open but who knows.
use search box at upper right to find your desired extension
download links will appear on screen (I selected the CRX itself one) - download to a known location on your PC
drag that CRX file you just downloaded to THE EXTENSIONS PAGE in Brave - you should them be asked if you want to install etc in the normal chrome store process which will now work (it did for me anyway)

Solution:

  1. go to https://crxextractor.com/ , enter chromestore extension url, and download .crx file.
  2. Go to brave->settings->manage extensions, then drag/drop crx file.

Had to reinstall Sticky Password - still receiving Access denied error followed my method 2 posts above to achieve success YAY!
C'MON SUPPORT STAFF, EITHER FIX OR COMMENT - IGNORING THE ISSUE IS NOT AN ANSWER
In answer to andrewjh86 I'd say add must go to extension page to install (by drag & drop) the .CRX (not checked to see if required for this latest install, I simply followed my instructions to the letter). Also link in andrew's post MAY not be your best bet ( I got a site promotion page instead of a straight install page).

Responded in the other issue - but you need to use a recent version of Brave. @G1tOnW1th1t was on version 1.25.72 from June 2021. Newer versions of Brave do not experience this problem

Solution (from above): update your version of Brave. If the update screen isn't working (brave://settings/help) let us know. Or you can reinstall from https://brave.com/download (your profile is safe)
