Describe the problem you are having

I have upgraded to beta v0.14.0-beta2 however I keep getting the following error constantly in the logs:

Unable to poll vainfo: b"error: XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is invalid or not set in the environment.\nerror: can't connect to X server!\nlibva info: VA-API version 1.17.0\nlibva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/nvidia_drv_video.so\nlibva info: va_openDriver() returns -1\nvaInitialize failed with error code -1 (unknown libva error),exit\n"

I am running the following:

• Proxmox 8.2.2
• Frigate is running on Docker inside an LXC
• Kernel version - Linux 6.8.4-3-pve
• GPUs - Intel UHD Graphics for 10th Gen Intel Processors, also a NVIDIA Quadro T2000, both passed through to LXC container
• Intel GPU - /dev/dri/renderD129
• NVIDIA GPU - /dev/dri/renderD128
• CPU - Intel i7-10850H
• Coral pcie installed

I have tried also removing the NVIDIA info from docker compose but still get the same error message

I have also noticed that no events are being retained. My intention is to use Frigate for motion snapshot capture, not for full NVR.
I only want to use the Intel GPU due to the NVIDIA being in use with CompreFace which eats all the 4gb memory.
I have tried setting compose line - /dev/dri/renderD129:/dev/dri/renderD129 but this has not worked to resolve the problem.
This same config works fine with Frigate v13, even though I was getting similar message when checking hardware info

Steps to reproduce

Update to beta v14. Also performed a clean install of the new beta and observe the same error

I would suggest removing nvidia from the container and not making the container privileged

Sorry, I meant object snapshots is what I intend on using (primarily for people in the defined zones). That is how I had the previous Frigate setup, no recording required (for video NVR purposes I just use the Unif Protect for the 2 cams I have so no need to double up on events) - I have Frigate feed object snapshots into DoubleTake and then person recognition performed by CompreFace. So does that mean Frigate cant be used the same way it used to be ie to capture object snapshots and then be able to review the snapshots at a later date?

Snapshots are not used in the new UI in 0.14 in the Review or History views. They're visible in the Frigate+ pane for submitting images to Frigate+ and also remain visible in Home Assistant via the Frigate integration if you're a HA user. They are still accessible via the API as well. But as @NickM-27 said, if you want to use the features of the new UI, you'll need a record role on your cameras.

@hawkeye217 thank you. I wasn’t aware the Frigate card can be used like that. I just used to go into the old UI when needed.
I guess for users only utilising the snapshot use case upgrading to v14 won’t be of any benefit? Might pay to make it clear in the docs that the event snapshot functionality has been dropped

We've tried to make it clear in the beta release notes for 0.14 that an entirely new way of reviewing footage was implemented with previews. We've been intentional to steer away from the previous releases' language of "clips" and "snapshots".

While a lot of focus has been put on the UI, there are a number of backend improvements in 0.14 that we think users will benefit from. But if 0.13 has been working for you, just run with it. As some folks always say, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
