The current version works with python3. I believe the ipaddr module was renamed to ipaddress with 3.3, but the original ipaddr continues to work up through (at least) 3.10.

To be clear, I don't object to this PR, but this does raise the required python version from to 3.3. Given that 3.3 is 10 years old, I don't see a problem with that.

Understood.

Just some background: I came across this during my work on a Rocky Linux 8.6 machine with only base python 3.6.8 installed from Appstream, Using only RH-based repos, I did not have the option to utilize python2-dns & the ipaddr module was called out as not working. This was just the quickest work-around for me.
