Main Steam client window is transparent when rendered with llvmpipe #9752
Comments
Previously mentioned at #9693 (comment). There's apparently a snafu somewhere with rendering the Steam client on mesa/llvmpipe. |
Similar issue on my end. Interested to see how this goes for other users that aren't using openSUSE. Will want to keep an eye this. Though closest thing I could think of is removing .Xauthority/.ICEauthority and rebooting. It might have something to do with that. |
There was a workaround for this using -vgui option, but recently it seems that this workaround no longer works. |
My new workaround for this is to install steamcmd after I install steam and use steamcmd to install the game(which will install it in steam folder). Then I work out the login process (which has visible gui) with the steam itself. And then I start the steam and run the game via the command line |
Mesa alleges that this issue is caused by this bug in SDL: libsdl-org/SDL#7975. |
Running Ubuntu 22.04 with updates, after updating Steam it now opens and runs properly. I'm able to install and run games as expected, other windows like Friends and the update news show as well. |
I have the same issue on Debian 11 |
Your system information
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
The issue i'm having is on my linux machine, which is an Ubuntu 22.04 LTS / x86 /64 with ubuntu-desktop installed. I have to mention though that this machine is a cloud machine which has no gpu. Nevertheless, everything worked fine on this machine prior to the update on June 14th 2023. I was able to run the steam client and work with it. But since the update, the gui is no longer seen post login screen, most parts are transparent, but some of them appear depending on the mouse position. I'm linking the image to better explain how i see it from my perspective:
