NES Revival - Power-Module Redesign

Completely Redesigning the NES Power Module to Reduce Noise and EMI

1/30/2025

I would like to thank the retro community for the love and support I have received over the years.
At this time, I will no longer be offering these NES Boards on eBay or other channels.
It's been a great couple of years but I must move on to other things in life.
All of the Boards should have their Kicad files and Gerbers available on this Github.

It's not too bad ordering 5 of them pre-assembled from JLCPCB and then just sell the other 4 to get a free board. :)
I will not be able to provide support as well on these but I absolutely recommend the NES Help section on Dubesinhower Discord.
https://x.com/dubesinhower?lang=en&mx=2

There are a lot of amazing folks on that Discord Channel and in our community.
Thank you for letting me be a part of it.

The original NES Power Module from the 80's is very noisy. The Power Traces cross eachother and the ground home path is messy. EMI was not a worry in 1985 but noise can impact picture and sound quality

Goals with these new NES Power Modules

  • Full Ground Plane that is uninterrupted and is free of traces and components.
  • Power Traces that do not cross and have the GND plane below for a good return power signal.
  • Have a specific NES Power Module for each use case (not try and pile everything into one board)

Full uninterrupted ground plane on the back of the board.

An easy to solder DIY Version of the Classic Composite RCA Edition.

For the few that own the NES HDMI Board, this module will provide very easy solder points without the need of the LDO.

Below is an example of the Orignal Power Module. Notice how the power traces keep crossing eachother and other components. Folks really didn't consider EMI a lot back then and opted to just cover the entire board in a metal shroud.
