## [Liz Cheney Issues New Warning About Republicans Controlling Congress - Newsweek](https://www.newsweek.com/liz-cheney-issues-new-warning-republicans-controlling-congress-1968260)

By Natalie Venegas, Weekend Reporter. Updated Oct 14, 2024 at 7:52 AM EDT. Published Oct 13, 2024 at 12:45 PM EDT

- **Liz Cheney's Warning**: Former Representative Liz Cheney warns about the GOP controlling Congress next year, expressing concerns over election security and the peaceful transfer of power.
- **Trump's Claims**: Former President Donald Trump continues to claim that the 2020 election was "rigged" and has not conceded his loss.
- **Election Security**: President Biden and other officials emphasize the importance of a free and fair election, with bipartisan efforts to ensure the certification of the 2024 election results.
- **Unity Commitment**: A bipartisan initiative led by Representatives Josh Gottheimer and Don Bacon aims to promote calm and respect for election results.

"I do not have faith that Mike Johnson will fulfill his constitutional obligations and if you look at what he did in 2020. He knew and he knew with specificity that claims of fraud that Donald Trump was making and that he was repeating, he knew those to be false...I think it's very concerning and I do think that Donald Trump has consistently said in the last few months that this election is going to be rigged and if he loses that's why. So, I think it's very important the Republicans not be a majority in the House come January 2025," she said.
Meet The Press, host Kristen Welker asked Cheney if she has "faith that this election will be free and fair and that there will be peaceful transfer of power."

The House speaker responded: "We are going to do our job in Congress, a free and fair legal election will be certified and that is our hope and prayer across the board. Of course, I'm going to follow our Constitution, I'm going to follow the law. It's my job, it's my duty, I took an oath to do that."

Welker pushed back, pointing out that Trump has yet to concede the 2020 results, asking, "When people hear you say if it is free and fair, does that not undermine people's confidence in the election results?"

Johnson said, "No it shouldn't because what I'm saying is what the Constitution provides...the point is the process work, we have the peaceful transfer of power, we did in 2020, we will in 2024. Everybody can sigh and take a deep breath. Our system is going to work."

New Jersey Democratic Representative Josh Gottheimer said in a release in September that he launched the initiative along with Nebraska Republican Representative Don Bacon to "demonstrate true leadership ahead of this critical election and serve as a voice for calm."

Bacon added: "In America we respect election results especially once the courts and appeals work through the process...We fight hard to win during campaigns and then respect the results when the votes are counted. We are the greatest country in the world, and we are governed by the rule of law. The citizens are sovereign, and they decide." The collective effort of Bacon and Gottheimer's initiative is called the "Unity Commitment."

The lawmakers also agreed to serve "as a voice for calm and reconciliation and speaking out against those who endorse or engage in violence that harms people, property, or public spaces."

@RalphHightower: Lord, I hope there is a peaceful transfer of power. As John Micklethwait, Editor-in-chief of Bloomberg News told Trump at the Q&A session at the Economic Club of Chicago: "You had a peaceful transfer of power? Come on President Trump, you had had a peaceful transfer of power compared to Venezuela. But it was by far the most, the worst transfer of power for a long time."[^11]

## [Lindsey Graham on Republicans supporting Harris: ‘What the hell are you doing?](https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4943731-graham-questions-republicans-backing-harris/)

Story by Sarah Fortinsky. October 20, 2024.

@RalphHightower: D'uh!

To [Lindsey Graham (T-SC)](https://www.lgraham.senate.gov/), specially:

1. Do you remember saying after the January 6, 2021 insurrection, "That's it! I'm done with Trump!"
2. How long was it before you and Trump were golfing buddies again?

Maybe your fellow Trumpers don't want to:

1. Maybe your fellow Trumpers don't want to live fearing the *"Wrath of Trump"
2. Maybe they don't won't to see this nation destroyed.
3. Maybe they believe that the Constitution needs to be preserved.
4. Revive the Republican Party from the dead?

- **[Graham (T-SC)](https://www.lgraham.senate.gov/public/)'s Criticism**: [Senator Lindsey [United States Senator Lindsey Graham (T-SC)](https://www.lgraham.senate.gov/public/) criticized Republicans supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, calling her the "most radical nominee" and highlighting her progressive policies.
- **Harris's Role**: [Graham (T-SC)](https://www.lgraham.senate.gov/public/) emphasized Harris's involvement in key decisions, such as the Afghanistan withdrawal and the Inflation Reduction Act.
- **Election Context**: The interview comes just weeks before Election Day, with early voting already underway.
- **Trump's Rhetoric**: [Graham (T-SC)](https://www.lgraham.senate.gov/public/) defended former President Trump against claims that he is a threat to the republic, focusing instead on current global issues.

“To every Republican supporting her, what the hell are you doing? You’re supporting the most radical nominee in the history of American politics. What are you doing? You’re trying to convince me that Donald Trump’s rhetoric is the danger to this country? The danger to this country is the policies of Biden and Harris. Her fingerprints are all over this disaster. And I can’t take four more years of this crap. When you support her, you’re supporting four more years of garbage policy. So what the hell are you doing as a Republican, blessing this stuff? – [Graham (T-SC)](https://www.lgraham.senate.gov/public/) (T-SC) on Meet The Press 10/20/2024.

“To General Milley, you have a right to your opinion, but I don’t fear Donald Trump,” [Graham (T-SC)](https://www.lgraham.senate.gov/public/) said in the interview, in response to Milley’s remarks. “I fear what’s going on in the world today. If you want the world to stay on fire, vote for her.”

Trump praised Latrobe Pennsylvania's native son, “Arnold Palmer was all man, and I say that in all due respect to women[^11]. This is a guy that was all man. When he took the showers with other pros, they came out of there. They said, ‘Oh my God. That’s unbelievable,’ I had to say. We have women that are highly sophisticated here, but they used to look at Arnold as a man.”

[^11]: @RalphHightower: Yeah, yeah, we know that you have a problem with your zipper. Bill Clinton shares the same problem.

This is clearly a **What The Fuck** moment in Trump’s campaign.

If Trump's campaign were a movie, the MPAA would rate his rallies as **"X"!**

## [Trump overcharged Secret Service by 300% for accommodations at his hotels](https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/18/trump-overcharge-secret-service-hotel)

Story by George Chidi. October 19, 2024.

- **Overcharging Secret Service**: Trump's hotels charged the Secret Service up to 300% more than the authorized government rate, contradicting claims that agents stayed for free.
- **Foreign Payments**: Trump's businesses received at least $7.8 million from 20 countries during his presidency.
- **Emoluments Clause**: Trump faced accusations of violating the emoluments clause, but the Supreme Court dismissed the cases after he left office.
- **Hotel Sale**: Trump sold the lease on his D.C. hotel in 2022, which reopened as a Waldorf Astoria in 2023.

Describing the former US president’s term in office as “the world’s greatest get-rich-quick scheme”, the report’s authors referred to documents obtained by subpoenas of the Mazars firm, Trump’s accountants, citing guest logs for Trump International hotel in Washington, DC, between September 2017 and August 2018.
The hotel “charged as much as 300% or more above the authorized government per diem”, for Secret Service hotel rooms, according to the report.

It added: “Not only did former President Trump’s D.C. hotel routinely charge the Secret Service more than the government rate, it frequently charged the Secret Service more than it did other patrons, including members of a foreign royal family and a Chinese business interest.”

Eric Trump has said previously that the Trump organization let Secret Service agents “stay at our properties for free”>^11]. But the report calls that assertion into question, noting that the agency was charged “far in excess of approved government per diem rates and even many times the rates charged to hundreds of other patrons—including some of the rooms rented by the Qatari royal family and Chinese business interests—for rooms used by agents protecting members of the Trump family.”

[^11]: @RalphHightower: That is total fucking bullshit!

@RalphHightower
January 5, 2020

Senator Lindsey Graham
290 Russell Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear [Senator Lindsey Graham](https://lgraham.senate.gov/)

There. I fixed it. Your Senate Oath of Office:

*I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend Trump, his businesses, his sons, daughter, and son-in-law against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation grudgingly, under threats and coercion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me Trump.*

It took the death of Senator John McCain, Republican from Arizona, to realize that without McCain
that you are constitutionally, ethically, and morally bankrupt, just like President Trump; you, sir,
have gone *“bat-shit crazy”.* The Republican Party died in July 2016 when it chose a person with zero
qualifications or the temperament to be president; it is now the Trump Party. Trump is trying to
run America like his family owned business.

From 1972 up to 2018, I was an independent voter; never drinking the Flavor Aid (ref: Jonestown
Massacre) of either party; but since there are no Republicans, only Trumpers, I voted straight ticket
in November 2018. I will not consider a vote for Republicans until sanity returns to the party.
Trump committed impeachable acts before the aid to Ukraine. I just wish that the ‘Republicans’ in
the Senate were interested in the truth and protecting and defending the Constitution and America.
Bolton, Mulvaney, Giuliani, and others that Trump has ordered to not testify before the House must
testify in front of the Senate. Trump needs to face an impartial jury, but that is not going to happen
since you are not interested in the truth and McConnell stated as such.

Sincerely,

Ralph Hightower
