Data visualization prioritization (to discuss with Robyn and question for Ben)

@bshalpern: Do you think we should have an interactive map (similar to the score map) that describes the average change in OHI score with a dropdown menu to display goal trends? Or, does this seem unnecessary given that we have the year slider? And, on the country page we will have those trend plots?

Scores by country

Interactive globe with scores with year slider and dropdown of goals.

Ideas: This looks great! Maybe add more info to hover window (low priority)? Make it so clicking on country will take you to country page. Should we have a dropdown list of countries under the globe as well to navigate to the country page?

first blush I this is a better way to present it than that stacked dot plot you showed yesterday. It would allow people to see each country and how much their trend has changed. I think it would be way more intuitive than the year slider, although I think the year slider is great too.

Some quick notes:

1. I love the idea of a toggle switch to convert the score map to a trend map. That would be great. I think that should be a high priority based on discussions.

2. For this:

Would this aster plot be the first page after clicking here:

That seems like it would be a nice way of introducing the goal scores and making it look distinct from the Methodology/goals. Would it be a good idea to link to the goal results by clicking on the pie piece (vs. the cards at the bottom..or both...or, only cards?)?

And in regard to this:

The current version of the Aster plot only shows scores for the top-level goals. However, many goals have sub-goals. We'd like another version of the plot that shows the score for each sub-goal. The sub-goal petal would be half the width of a parent-goal petal (since there are only ever 2 sub-goals for a given parent goal).

The more I think about it, I think that the 10 piece aster plot (with only primary goals) would actually be fine (and easier).

3. We can completely drop the dot/histogram idea that shows average change over time. I think we adequately (and better) cover trends with the current and planned visualizations.

4. I can organize the trend data to be more similar to the scores csv file. I can have that for you tomorrow.

NOTE: We will think more about how to do the goal pages visualizations. Realized that I don't have a clear idea of best approach.

Several ideas:
Have the main goals/scores page be an aster plot with pieces linking to goal scores. Then for each goal score have the aster plot with that goal highlighted serving as the goal score report. Complication is that if we use 10 goal aster (without subgoals) the subgoals wouldn't have this.

Another option is just reporting score with gauge. Or circle with score in it. Or something else.
