Vocab. CMS_Place_of_Service
The CMS Place of Service Vocabulary is used to specify the type of location where healthcare services are provided.
The CMS Place of Service vocabulary originates from CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), which defines locations where healthcare services may be delivered. It is commonly used in claims data to indicate the physical location where services were provided.
Place of Service concepts have one distinct name per concept.
Place of Service Codes are two-digit numeric codes that represent specific service locations.
The Place of Service concepts are in the ‘Visit’ domain.
Concept Classes for Place of Service fall under 'Visit'.
‘Place of Service’ Concepts are non-Standard Concepts and therefore do not participate in the hierarchy of the CONCEPT_ANCESTOR table.
‘Place of Service’ concepts are non-Standard. That means they have to be mapped to the corresponding Standard Concepts using the CONCEPT_RELATIONSHIP table ("Maps to" records). They are mapped to single Visit Concepts, generating one-to-one records in the Visit table.
