Enable the tumbler and turn on more thumbnail plugins. This affects Thunar and Ristretto.

I hadn't enabled it because it always segfaulted for me after a few minutes of use (browsing large dir of photos). Have you hit no such problems?

I couldn't reproduce the crashes quickly, so let's enable it by default.

I was a bit torn whether to add to services.dbus.packages instead, but both should work, I think.

No, I havn't seen random crashes, but I have not got any really big photo dir. I'll have a chance to check it soon on another machine.

Still there is a tricky thing about tumbler: When I compiled tumbler without libpng support it decided not to ship tumbler-xdg-cache.so and later segfaulted on accessing it (dumbass). Adding all possible dependencies fixed it.

That could be the problem I had many months ago. Yesterday it produced hundreds of thumbnails without any problem. And if it crashes, people just won't have thumbnails, which isn't worse than before ;-)
