This PR enables testing for _4 mode.
Note that when testing in _4 mode, some of the tests allow a few data points (<10, out of tens of thousands) to differ beyond the established small tolerance. These differences come from small differences due to limited precision. I have added a note to the documentation suggesting that _4 mode may not be appropriate for all applications.
Fixes #162
