Style is missing

I created a banner by adding a notice to the base template. But I'm not seeing the style I expect for a notice. Here's what I did:

1. Create /layouts/partials/wip-banner.html.

2. Add a notice:

3. Copy the theme’s baseof.html file to /layouts/_default/.

4. Add {{ partial "wip-banner.html" . }} to the <main> element of baseof.html just under the opening tag.

The outcome is there (see screenshot), but there's no style: no box, no secondary color. The secondary color is defined in css:

assets/css/theme-relearn-dark.css:  --SECONDARY-color: rgba(176, 98, 194, 1);

What am I doing wrong?

Basically your steps look fine - although it could be argued that overriding the baseof template isn't a sustainable idea.

That said, as I couldn't reproduce your issue, please share a link to your project.

I'm working on how to be able to share this, it's from a private repo.

Meanwhile, can you tell me what's a better pattern than updating baseof?

baseof.html is a pretty complex template. If you change it, upgrading the theme may get a hassle in the future as you have to check for every change the theme made to this template and may reapply it to your copy.

Better to copy and change layouts\_default\views\article.html and add your changes there (probably between <article> and <heading>). This template is much simpler and may not see significant changes in the future. And even if it changes, reapplying them to your copy should be straightforward.
