Windows XP was released August 24, 2001 proceeding the existence of Open GL 2.

The last Windows service pack for XP was April 21, 2008, the Product is End Of Life by Microsoft April 8, 2014

The Update Servers have been taken off line so updates are no longer possible.

Because of this getting XP to work is cumbersome at best and unsupported.

Windows Vista was released November 2006

Windows 7 was released October 2009

Windows 8 was released August 1st 2012

Windows 8.1 was released April 8th 2014

Windows 10 was released July 29th 2015

All but Windows 10 are End Of Life as of February 2018

What does End Of Life mean?

Historically Windows offers 5 years of full support and an additional 5 years of what you could call security updates. Basically a 10 year cycle.After that the servers have been taken offline to get updates, making updates unavailable.
