Welcome to the ReignModpack wiki!

Day 1 1000 AGC (After the Great Cleansing)

Your first day in Reign will be a race against the sun. Days and nights in Reign are 2.5 times a normal Minecraft day length. You will need it. The extended day length encourages exploration in a world where you must be home before dark. You cannot simply plop your bed down anywhere when it gets dark. Beds must be placed for a full Minecraft day before they can be slept in. The beds in the huts at spawn are the only exception to this. Don't try to remove them.

Use your first day to collect the resources needed for light, food and shelter.

Warning: Do not punch the trees. It hurts. Instead, find some gravel or sedimentary sands to craft into flint. You don't need a crafting table for this. Press "E" to access your 2x2 inventory crafting grid.

Gravel and sedimentary sands, like clay and salt, can be readily found at beaches, rivers and ocean floors. 3 sedimentary sands in a crafting grid = 1 flint. 2 gravel in a crafting grid = 1 flint. 2 flint side by side in a crafting grid = the flint handaxe.

This flint handaxe is your first tool. Make it as soon as you have enough gravel or sedimentary sand to do so. It works as a weapon as well (it is an axe, after all).

Then grab additional gravel/sedimentary sands for additional flint. You will need at least 9 pieces of flint for your first tools.

Then go cut down a tree. Beware of falling logs Choose your tree wisely!! Tall, straight trees are best.

The next step is to make your Tinkers tables.

To start, craft 4 logs into planks, then craft 2 crafting benches. Place these crafting benches back in the crafting grid to get 2 Tinkers crafting tables. Place 1 down. Anywhere safe will do.

Craft 8 blank patterns, using 4 sticks and 4 planks.

Then take those stencils and craft the following basic Tinkers tables.

Stencil Table, Pattern Chest, Part Builder, Tool Station

Arrange the tables so that the Pattern Chest is between the Stencil Table and the Part Builder (Left to right or right to left does not matter).

Place your remaining Blank Patterns in the Stencil Table, then make the following stencils/patterns:

  • Pick head
  • Shovel head
  • Axe head
  • Binding (the smaller "X" shape)

Place the Stencils into the Pattern chest, then open up the Part Builder. If you've arranged your Tinker's Tables as above, your stencils will be visible and accessible from within the Part Builder.

Place 4 pieces of flint into the top material slot of Part Builder. Place a stick into the bottom material slot (it will be used to make the wooden binding)

Don't Shift-Click to place the Tool Part in your inventory - doing so will result in all the flint being used up to make 4 pick heads.

Using the appropriate Stencil for each, make:

  • 1 Flint Pick Head
  • 2 Flint Shove Heads
  • 1 Flint Axe Head
  • 1 Wooden Binding

Carefully take the Tool Parts as you make them and place them in your inventory, then go to the Tool Station.

Here's where you make (and repair) your tools using the appropriate parts. Click on the 'pick' button in the left panel (it's second from the left in the below picture). Notice the top section on the right changes to show which parts are required for the chosen tool.

The first tool I recommend making is the pick.

Then make the Mattock, followed by the Shovel. I recommend making the shovel as well because the mattock is no faster at digging gravel, salt and sand than your fist is, and you will be needing plenty of all of those things. The mattock is also used for gathering seeds (right click a grass block away from water) and tilling grass (right click within 4 blocks of water) to make farmland. Note that you cannot punch long grass to get seeds.

Now that you've got your basic tools, you're on a race against the sun to get what you need.

Mine some stone! You need enough for a furnace, so 8 blocks at least.

Find clay (abundant at beaches and rivers, just like gravel). You may have grabbed some clay while you were grabbing the gravel earlier. If you notice salt while you're getting clay and gravel, grab some of that too. Just a block or 2 for now.

Use the clay to make a bucket like so

You will have to fire the bucket in a furnace before you can use it. Take the fired clay bucket, but before you set off to get water, place some of your logs in the furnace to make charcoal while you're gone. You'll need the charcoal for making torches. (Note: Torches can also be made from tree sap, which drops from Spruce Trees).

Now, water. You will need this for drinking water. I have died of thirst on my first night because I didn't have water. Take your water bucket and place it down in a clean water biome, then right click the water with an empty hand to drink. Like so:

The meter in the bottom left corner of the player HUD is your thirst bar. If you drink salt water (or get set on fire), you will see just how fast that bar can go down. Camel packs and water bottles can be made later to help keep your thirst bar full.

By now, there will be little of the day left. Hopefully you've had time to collect some Harvestcraft gardens and other food. You may sleep in the beds in the spawn hut.

If you've wandered too far from spawn, you will need to rush to find shelter before the sun sets. It gets VERY dark at night so you will need those torches. If you get cold, you can warm up by standing close to torches, a lit furnace or a campfire. Being under cover also helps.

Options for first night shelter include a simple hole in the ground (beware of cave-ins), a simple wooden box (don't forget the roof) or a tree house (mobs can't climb ladders).

Congratulations on surviving your first day in Reign.
