A namespace name is a uniform resource identifier (URI). Typically, the URI chosen for the namespace of a given XML vocabulary describes a resource under the control of the author or organization defining the vocabulary, such as a URL for the author's Web server. However, the namespace specification does not require nor suggest that the namespace URI be used to retrieve information; it is simply treated by an XML parser as a string. For example, the document at http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml itself does not contain any code. It simply describes the XHTML namespace to human readers. Using a URI (such as "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml") to identify a namespace, rather than a simple string (such as "xhtml"), reduces the probability of different namespaces using duplicate identifiers. |

Can @loricooperhdf help us? |
I had to leave the engineering meeting where I believe this was discussed early due to another meeting. Are you saying that http://www.hdfgroup.org/HDF5/XML/schema/HDF5-File.xsd should resolve to https://docs.hdfgroup.org/archive/support/HDF5/XML.html I went ahead and created this redirection... www has no technical/support content on it since at least May 2017 (my start date.) I would prefer to not create a file that will live there and then go on to confuse future generations, but I should be able to redirect to the accurate location on docs, if this is where you want it to go. |
Since that xml option of h5dump has effectively been deprecated, and no plans to update it - I will get those files copied in to the h5dump source folder and put a notice in the h5dump doxygen page that the xml option is no longer maintained that the files are available but that h5dump will not edit the code as the use of the file is simply to create a namespace attribute. Only an xml schema app would care - but again we do not support the xml option.
Therefore I would not bother to store the file anywhere else - except if you want them archived on the support site.
