there is a bug in mapbox-gl (see Eddie-Larsson/mapbox-print-pdf#1). It is not possible to know when the layer has been rendered. Partial work around in #5

I keep it open as it is not fixed 100%. It is blocked by mapbox gs

I think that mapbox 0.46 solves the problem with this issue
