Welcome to the Pinokio Project wiki!
This project is about making the pixar lamp real. We took our inspiration from the pinikio project. We have chosen to document our realisation and open code and parts we created, so that be easy for someone else to do the lamp.
A webcam is added to the lamp to give it the ability to see its environment. Actuators allow the lamp to move by itself and to express different behaviors. We also replaced the lamp bulb with RGB LED in order to make it more expressive and give users a visual feedback of the lamp.
The project took place at ENSEIRB-MATMÉCA engineering school during the month of January 2014 and continued on January 2015. We had 3 weeks to build and document the robotic lamp, and implement basic behavior.
A researcher team from INRIA asked us to build and document the lamp, because they want to use it to perform Turing test. The lamp will be controlled either by a program or a human, and many test subjects will interact with it. The point for them will be to determine who is at the other side, only having access to the lamp: the machine or the human.
A 3D printer has been used to print parts which hold the actuators on the lamp. The implementation was realized in python to make it cross-platform and easily comprehensible.
You can find a short YouTube video about face detection.
