Load the sensors demo, and pan (left mouse only) the globe until the country of India is in the center of your screen. Now pan up-and-down gently, so India moves toward the upper-middle and lower-middle of the screen. Keep your eye on the top of the sensor volume when you do this, it "snaps" from full brightness to complete darkness as you cross a certain point.

Is this the same as #816 by any chance?

I thought the same thing, but after playing with it, I don't think it is. The Sun is not on screen, or anywhere near close, when some of the changes happen.

I just looked at it, and I agree: this is specific to the sensor.

@bagnell can you look at this soon? Probably just needs something like faceForward until we do more work on shading sensors.
