Bushfire detection

This is the repository containing all my resources(code+notes) for my honours project: Bushfire detection with Lora.

Please note that as I am in Australia, some parameters may only apply to Australia.

firmware setup

It seems that if the micro-python firmware is not installed properly on pico, we can't connect to the pico on Thonny. To install it, just find the firmware here for pico, and drag it into pico. In order for pico to appear as a storage device, you have to hold the bootsel button while you are plugging in the usb.

The things network specific

Note that for uplink, The Things Network uses channels 8 to 15 and 65. You’ll need to program the specific channels into the devices in order to make them work with TTN.
The channels are numbered in regional parameters see section 2.8.2. More specifically, They are:
8. 916.8 - SF7BW125 to SF12BW125
9. 917.0 - SF7BW125 to SF12BW125
10. 917.2 - SF7BW125 to SF12BW125 11. 917.4 - SF7BW125 to SF12BW125
12. 917.6 - SF7BW125 to SF12BW125
13. 917.8 - SF7BW125 to SF12BW125
14. 918.0 - SF7BW125 to SF12BW125
15. 918.2 - SF7BW125 to SF12BW125
65. 917.5 - SF8BW500
For downlink, these channels are used:

  1. 923.3 - SF7BW500 to SF12BW500 (RX1)
  2. 923.9 - SF7BW500 to SF12BW500 (RX1)
  3. 924.5 - SF7BW500 to SF12BW500 (RX1)
  4. 925.1 - SF7BW500 to SF12BW500 (RX1)
  5. 925.7 - SF7BW500 to SF12BW500 (RX1)
  6. 926.3 - SF7BW500 to SF12BW500 (RX1)
  7. 926.9 - SF7BW500 to SF12BW500 (RX1)
  8. 927.5 - SF7BW500 to SF12BW500 (RX1)
  9. 923.3 - SF12BW500 (RX2)

To check your region-specific plan, the following resources are useful.

todo

  • develop a script to analyse the json file
  • develop a script to deploy the scripts automatically
  • try to understand what the channel and sf does the device actually use by inspecting the packets, and see how it maps to the regional parameteres.

idea

  • if we can store the appKey on each pico, then we just set the main.py script to read from the file, then the script can be same for all devices, we just need to change the config file inside each of the pico.

experiment

config:
I run the code for 1 minute on one node. The code and the data is in this commit.
