Subscription upgrades not possible with imported subscriptions

We've imported a list of subscriptions, which worked flawlessly.

However, it is not possible to upgrade a subscription when the subscription is imported. When a subscription is created manually, subscription upgrades works fine. It seems like the subscriptions plugin itself requires that a subscription should have placed an order (e.g. a subscription) before it is possible to make an upgrade.

It would normally make sense as one would have bought the subscription (through an order) in the first place, but when importing subscriptions, the subscriber has not had the chance to place an order before.
