There is an idea to add ribbon cables and to allow calling out folds and splits, yes. I can't say when this will be implemented.

@formatc1702 Can you elaborate a bit on the (high-level) design details? How would the ribbon cable differ from current cables? What else would change (associated connectors maybe)?
