To make it short, messengers are closed systems and do not allow for inter-communication between, for example, Skype and Wire. On the other hand, users don't want to maintain several different messaging clients and accounts. Guest links, which are implemented in the commercial Wire version, are a wonderful way to break the vicious circle because it requires no software installation (runs in browser) and no registration (anonymous temporary user). Thus, it would be very beneficial for the spreading of Wire to allow such link in all versions of Wire, not just the commercial one.

Finally, you could send a temporary link to your contact to do your video call on Wire instead of having to install and use Skype, just because everybody else does. Your are on a trip with friends and they ask you if you have Whatsapp to organize things? You could just text them a temporary group link and voilá, you are not forced to install Whatsapp but others have the chance to reach you or might even go for the group as the solution of choice.

Some of the temporary users might like the Wire features and register afterwards. Maybe, there could be a way to convert a temporary to a permanent Wire account. This is better than any software demo! I just think that by limiting this particular feature Wired is not doing itself a favor. Please consider and discuss this feature request!

Best,
Johannes

Hello Johannes,

Thanks for the feedback!
We are focusing now on developing Wire Pro - as you wrote this feature is currently available for paying customers.
Your request is noted, and something we'll keep in mind for the future.

Best wishes,
Wire Support

Please do so because I'm noting that secure messaging has generally lost attention and it becomes more and more difficult to bring people to Wire. What Wire needs is not only cryptographic but also functional superiority. This also means that there must be an easy-to-use and stable API to develop third party applications. For instance, Telegram has a very rich ecosystem based on bots and other applications which is not reached by any of the competitors.

This. I'd love to integrate some of my infrastructure with Wire, but the API isn't anything near what Telegram's is (or, for that matter, plain old XMPP).
