@miketaylr just had issues with updating intern. Basically chai and dojo couldn't be updated, b/c of symlink. Related?

npm WARN update-linked node_modules/intern/node_modules/chai needs updating to 3.5.0 from 1.9.1 but we can't, as it's a symlink
npm WARN update-linked node_modules/intern/node_modules/dojo needs updating to 2.0.0-alpha.7 from 2.0.0-dev but we can't, as it's a symlink

Looks like its related to the intern version.

Hmmmmm, it's possible. I didn't even bother to update, I just rm -rf and re-installed.

In the Travis environment, Intern is fresh-installed (or loaded from a previous cache) rather than updated.
