Web Translation API is a possible candidate for adoption into the WebML WG in the future.

From w3ctag/design-reviews#948

The group where standardization of this work is intended to be done ("unknown" if not known): unknown. The Web Machine Learning W3C Working Group seems to explicitly rule out these sorts of high-level APIs in its charter. Maybe that can be amended though.

Discussed in WebML WG: https://www.w3.org/2024/05/02-webmachinelearning-minutes.html#t01

@domenic @KenjiBaheux we're happy to provide you an opportunity to present this incubation to the WebML WG when you feel like the time is right. This helps raise the awareness and build the support base for the possible WG adoption.

A set of task-based APIs and Prompt API were adopted by the WebML Community Group on 9 December 2024. See the Incubations landing page for explainers and spec drafts.

These APIs are now further incubated in the WebML CG and readiness for WebML WG adoption will be reviewed from time to time considering implementation experience, end user feedback (from trials) and other signals, for each of the APIs individually.
