I remember reporting many years ago on vpforums as Ace of Spades Pinbal, about the emulation problems of the M114S. My guess now is that the drums are samples that are played too fast.

In the M114S core, we have several defines where it is unknown how exactly the chip does certain things (=unclear from the existing datasheets).
Plus in the Mr Game usage (i guess this is what you tested, or??), there are also some filter networks connected to the outputs, which are not emulated yet (i.e. these could also turn the pops and clicks to 'drums').
Oh, if somebody knows of another M114S core somewhere out there in the emulation realm, please also post the link here. To my knowledge, PinMAME features the only one.
