Some kind of power system / energy grid. Generate, transport, store, and consume using various machinery.

This could help https://github.com/deathcap/voxel-quarry

In the world of MC, at least with FTB, "RF" seems to be becoming the de facto standard lately, or is gaining popularity: http://forum.feed-the-beast.com/threads/update-on-the-future-of-ftb-modpacks-in-1-7.44850/. Don't know much how it works, or how its design compares to other energy systems (EU, MJ, or also UE: http://universalelectricity.com/)

Something like redstone?

Redstone is more of a logic signaling system than energy / power itself, though logic signals would be useful, too. In modded Minecraft, it seems that "Redstone Flux" (RF) has since gained prominence as a power system.

Sorry still not too sure what RF is, is it some sort of measurement of energy density?

Not quite sure either what it is or represents has been fully defined, but here's what their wiki says:

http://ftbwiki.org/Redstone_Flux

Redstone Flux, denoted RF, is a power system introduced by Thermal Expansion 3. It is nearly identical in its mechanics to Minecraft Joules and serves as a replacement for them in certain mods as of Minecraft 1.6 and 1.7, most notably Thermal Expansion, but also a few others, such as MineFactory Reloaded And BuildCraft.

Minecraft Joules is "pneumatic" mechanical energy introduced by the BuildCraft mod for Minecraft:

http://ftbwiki.org/Minecraft_Joule

Minecraft Joules (or MJ for short) is a type of energy introduced by BuildCraft. It is generated by machines called Engines and can be used by any kind of BuildCraft machinery.

but personally I'm partial to the Energy Unit, from Industrial Craft:

http://ftbwiki.org/Energy_Unit

The Energy Unit, often abbreviated as EU, is the unit of energy used by IndustrialCraft2 and its add-ons. It is similar to the SI unit of the Joule. EU can be created through various generators, stored in certain blocks and items (e. g. the BatBox, RE-Battery or BatPack), and transported through cables to power machines

though at most these are valuable for reference or inspiration, since a power network would have to be completely reimplemented for voxel.js in JavaScript. Making more "realistic" energy systems https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electricity is also possible but think these RF, MJ, and EU systems are worth taking a look at since they are simplified practical energy networks for a virtual game world.

Hmm i see, kind of like a machine that generates "coal"
