2022 Themes
The primary role of the Tanzu Community Edition (TCE) team is to support community users in their usage of TCE. Along with this day job, we want to advance the user experience, releases, packaging, and application platforms in Tanzu. Work to advance each of these themes is backed by a proposal.
User Experience
Lower the barrier-of-entry in using Tanzu. We'd like humans of various backgrounds to successfully deploy and manage clusters along with run workloads without a deep understanding of Kubernetes or Tanzu.
Offer higher-order functionality to enable application developers atop Tanzu clusters. Aim to easily establish healthy abstractions that reduce time in operating Kubernetes and increase time in writing software.
📅 targeting: 12/03/21 (delayed, targeting late Jan)
Summary
v0.10.0 is our first milestone post-GA. During this time we're focusing on supporting the new community, paying down technical debt, and fielding inbound user feature requests and bugs. Additionally, this release introduces unmanaged-cluster, which provides a minimal Tanzu environment for development and experimentation. The intent of unmanaged-cluster is to eventually replace the standalone-cluster model.
v0.9.0 is a micro-milestone setup to fix major issues in TCE prior to its general availability. There are no new features being developed in this time-frame. The majority of engineering work is focused on documentation and bug fixes.
v0.8.0 focuses on clean-up and stabilization of TCE as we approach public announcement in October. The subsequent micro-release, 0.9.0 will be our first publicly accessible release. This release introduces the tanzu diagnostics command, which enables users to gather diagnostics about running clusters.
v0.7.0 aligns TCE with tanzu-framework. With this alignment, TCE now uses the exact same package format and package CLI plugin as all Tanzu editions. This release also introduces a conformance command to the Tanzu CLI for TCE users. Lastly, this is the first release that includes native windows support.
