TODO List planned from release > 1.0.0 of synbak
legend:
- planned
* work in progress
+ done
==================
:: Architecture
- Enable remote-to-remote backup for methods like rsync, tar etc...
Actually synbak can act as backup server collecting data 'from remote' host shares 'to local' synbak machine,
but not 'from remote' host share 'to remote' host share, because actually you can specify only 'remote source' and
not 'remote destination', destination is always local (ex. file system directory, tape device, laserdisc media, tar archive, etc...)
NOTE: you can accomplish this using autofs service, please read the FAQ file
- Write a GTK/QT/MFC/.Net/Java GUI frontend for managing the synbak config file
- Write a GTK/QT/MFC/.Net/Java GUI frontend for browsing, searching and recovering backuped files
- Add to synbak a feature to auto remove old backups (even if you want keep many other days) when the destination disk reach near 95% of capacity.
This can make synbak a very automated tool
- Enhance the synbak reporting facility, allowing verbose output of backup commands and reporting that to the various reports (like adding
"backup_method_opts = -vvv" to the rsync method)
:: Backup Methods
+ Oracle databases
+ Remote HTTP/FTP mirrors or single file download via wget
- rdiff-backup system
* DAR backup system
+ PostgreSQL databases
- Microbackup snapshot policy
- Informix databases
- MS-SQL databases
- IBM DB2 databases
- rsync to non ext3 filesystems return errors (must exclude the following strings):
rsync: chown
rsync: mkstemp
rsync: recv_generator: mkdir
rsync: symlink
rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred
*** Skipping any contents from this failed directory ***
- add the ssh tunnel option to bypass firewalled target servers (named like: backup_remote_ssh_tunnel)
:: Reports
- Write a report method to storing backups information into a SQL database (ex. MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, etc...)
- Write a PHP frontend using a SQL backend with backups information stored on it
- Save the html backup information files in the xml format instead using plain ASCII files
+ Use TableKit for html table rendering, sorting and column reordering
