Guide on how to create a chrome patch

I wonder how to create or modify a chromium patch.
For example:

• Which IDE or code editor is preferable?
• Do you edit a '.patch' file directly or are they generated based on another file?
• Will this be easily testable on my own rig?

I would really like to contribute to this project but having a hard time figuring out where or how to start.

please start by showing me where you develop, for example I use windows for the IDE connected to a linux machine.

When run this command in the docker:
USE_KEYSTORE= gn gen --args="target_os = \"android\" $(cat /home/lg/working_dir/cromite/build/cromite.gn_args) target_cpu = \"x64\" " out/x64
I get the error below:

ERROR Can't create the build dir. I could not create the build dir "/home/lg/working_dir/chromium/src/out/x64/".

Have you faced this issue at any time?

I tried building just on my local machine and i'm getting much further.
In the last half of the building process i get this error:
fatal error: 'flatbuffers/flatbuffers.h' file not found
Is is something you have seen before.

I have installed the flatbuffers package in arch

yes, several times! the problem is in the permissions.

probably wrong gn flags in your build. these are the cromite ones cromite.gn_args.
but try to use the docker image.

I have installed the flatbuffers package in arch

chromium tends to recompile almost everything from source. the only things needed are the tools installed by depot_tools.
my image already has everything you need (see cromite/tools/images/build-deps
/Dockerfile).
you should read the chromium documentation if you have not already done so.

I will try to use you docker again. I had some problems generating the /out when using the commands provided but i will start over and report back (EDIT: Nevermind, seems to be the permission problem you wrote about). Thanks :)
