I'm confused about what rules ABP put in to fix it, blocking anything just gives a dead video. Stripping the query parameters from .m3u8 seems to work for 6abc.com, but unsure about others.

Which rule is ABP using? Because on default it doesn't work.

You need to add these two filters:

||uplynk.com/api/v3/preplay/*
/(uplynk.com\/ext\/.*\.m3u8)\?.*$/$rewrite=$1

The first block filter is required in order for the second rewrite filter to have a chance to do its job.
