  • [ x] This is not a feature request (existing functionality does not work, not missing functionality).
I will request features on forum or via support.
  • [ x] I've searched and did not find a similar issue.

Describe the bug
Cannot log in on low speed internet connection

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Use low speed internet {400kb\s or less}
  2. Try to log into tuta mail desktop web or mobile
  3. Fail as it just keeps babbling about opening the fridge. Sitting around watching tv and other useless information
  4. No errors. The app thinks I'm offline. Web just keeps repeating it's "busy lighting it's crack pipe"
  5. No that is not what it is actually saying but it may as well for the useful info it provides. It should say something like " connection to network good, internet connecting slow. can't ping server, trying backup server" or other useful info.

Expected behavior
You should log in. Or see an error not get unhelpful not babble.
Screenshots
If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Desktop (please complete the following information):
Debian 12
Pixel 8 pro
Fire hd 10 tablet

Additional context
Huge areas of the world don't have good internet access. Many will never have high speed access. Apps that need to transfer megabytes of info or high speed just to login is catering to the richest people first and foremost.

I want to confirm I am having this issue as well.
It does not appear to be caused by lowspeed internet ... I am stuck in some sort of loop and can confirm I was unable to login from:

Linux Desktop using Firefox Browser
Android Phone using Tuta Mobile App
Linux Desktop using Tuta Desktop App
Android Phone using Firefox Browser

On web browser - I just get stuck hearing about how it's cycling to work... and opening the fridge

I have this issue regularly because of my low speed network ( usually i have to switch over to my cell lte and i can log in). Today i cannot connect at all which is why i made the report..
I know there is an issue with low speed connecting all the time. But maybe there are other issues as well that make it worse today

Fair enough. Mine just unstuck itself and I'm now able to get in. Sorry to undermine your issue! ❤️

You never know if you never speak up and say something. Issues are issues and without good diagnostic info from the app when it fails, the only thing we can do is ask questions

Mine still fails

The same happens to me, although I can't verify being on slow internet at these times. It always happens when the app (re-)starts from hibernation. I then will have to leave and re-enter the app again to fix this mess.

Hi @nutpantz 👋
Thank you for reporting the issue. Unfortunately, we were not able to reproduce it based solely on the information provided, so we don't think that slow internet is the cause.

We understand your frustration, and we'll keep this issue in mind. In the meantime, we would greatly appreciate any more details you can provide us regarding this.

Cheers :)

@hrb-hub So what about the general and frequent failure of Tutamail to detect online status? This has not been an issue about half a year or longer ago, so you guys must have patched this "bug" into the app afterwards. It's annoying af.

@HarriBuh It's possible that your login issue is caused by something else, in any case, any more details you may provide would be greatly appreciated.

As for the online status issue, could you please send us your logs when it occurs? You can do so by going to Settings -> About (lower left) -> Send Logs. Please reference #8107 when you do.
In order to continue improving and add new features, we are constantly making changes to our codebase, so like you said, there's a chance this is a recently introduced bug, thanks for the report :)
