I have the "auto create IndexFile" setting turned on, and when I try to make a sub-folder, here's what happened:

Some details:

  • The parent folder also has an index file
  • The problem was solved after I closed all open folders using the Collapse All plugin

Can you try to recreate it with only this plugin enabled? Just want to make sure if its caused by this or intererance from another plugin, as I can't seem to replicate this behaviour

I did that as well as switched to default theme, and now all my files don't show in the navigator

oh, and the files only disappeared after I clicked on the folder that has an index file. It was okay on normal folders. On that note, I can no longer open index files. I thought I might've deleted it accidentally, but when I check in file explorer, it's still there.

Edit: I restarted Obsidian, and now I can open index files again

The problem doesn't always appear, though. Sometimes I can create sub-folders just fine, but most of the time, it makes my file navigation wonky. Here's a video demonstrating that:

Edit: removed the video

Any file navigation issues could be caused by #5 I suggest to just disable the "Hide IndexFile" option for now, I'll roll out an update in a second to make it disabled by default, as I definitly have to figure out what is causing this problem.

Please let me know if this was the actual cause of the Problem

Love this plugin but I have the same problem as well. Sometimes everything in my navigation pane just disappeared. Restarting obsidian and/or disable "hide index file" does the trick for now 😅
