  • Decide on Tech(TeX) stack.
  • Argue that future digitalised research needs RSEs
  • Argue that the current level of RSEs that opportunistically end up in the RSE role is not sufficient.
  • Argue that we need education programs that young people can inscribe into
  • Argue that this requires university program's for the youngster's.
  • Figure out, what a bachelor's program looks like? RSE Bachelor Programme? competencies#220
  • Figure out what a master's program could look like
  • Integrate existing master's programs/survey project
  • Argue, that the quick adaptation cycles require institutionalised education points(with the intention having a recognized institution)
  • Introduce the notion of a required follow-up education.
  • Argue that these can also serve as education points for domain scientists.
  • argue that this can also enhance vocational programs and have bigger reach into the society.
  • Detail the process how we bootstrap the teachers
  • detail what our teachers are made of.
  • Close by arguing that this facilitates creating a sustainable rate of young RSEs to support science.

  • Decide on Tech(TeX) stack.

I think what we had so far for the competencies paper was nice. Why change it? In any case, for such a text-heavy paper, it will not make that much of a difference.

We can still use the external bibliography repo for both: https://github.com/the-teachingRSE-project/bibliography

I don't know if the spell checker (which is annoying but helpful) works with LaTeX as well, or if we will need to add many more exceptions.

  • Figure out what a master's program could look like

Do we want to write much more than what we had in the Competencies paper Appendix, or mainly cite that? We have not written anything about Bachelor's there, though, so we anyway need to write something.

How is this connected to the effort by Aachen?

  • Integrate existing master's programs/survey project

OK, we had that discussion already in some meeting, and everybody liked the existing pandoc tech-stack, so we will reuse what we have. DECISION: Keep pandoc tex-stack

Since the Master's program will now be worked out in a separately, even funded, project, I guess we don't need to go into the details here then. Also have a look at what @jpthiele and me have been doing over here: https://github.com/the-teachingRSE-project/RSE-Masters/blob/main/curriculum.md

How is this connected to the effort by Aachen? Bernhard is setting up/doing an RSE program. Therefore I would say, there is a loose connection.
