This paper extensively uses many abbreviated terms, which makes the paper a bit tricky to read.

I already briefly tried using \pdftooltip{TERM}{Description} from the pdfcomment package, to define terms directly (without going through a glossary), but it behaves a bit strange. Probably pandoc needs some tweaking.

Is this something that people would be interested in? Has anyone else already attempted it?

I would be happy to keep trying, if it makes sense.

This would require either hard-coding LaTeX commands, or using a glossary that would apparently still be complicated #191 (comment)

While it could be helpful, I think in the end it is just a high effort / low benefit gimmick. Let's just ignore it.
