I had originally suggested this here but zed'K thought that it would be a good idea to ask about it here!

"Perhaps you could tweak the terminate vessel button in the tracking station so that it calculate the amount of rocket parts/metal in the vessel and transport the corresponding amound to the nearest rocket parts/metal tank?"

Would also love an EVA option to right click recycle parts. :D @taniwha

For game design reasons, there would have to be several rules:

  • There must be a nearby (range undetermined, but on the order of 1km, probably closer) vessel with a recycling bin (or similar facility) attached and suitable storage on the same vessel (note: vessel includes bases and stations).
  • All recycling recipes apply: this means parts go to scrap metal using EL's default recipes.
  • The facility would have to be staffed by suitably skilled kerbals (probably construction skill).
  • Possibly some others I haven't through of, but...
  • The most important rule: TANSTAAFL.

@taniwha I've also found the old .mu that was being considered for SimpleConstruction (add to a part to allow recycling). I am planning on adding it to the claw and put it out for testing.

@zer0Kerbal to be clear, when I refer to recycling bin, I mean the module, not the part (thus "or similar facility"), and even then, I might come up with a more suitable module for such remote operations, but EL's current recycling module would be a minimum requirement, I think.
