Custom scales documentation or option

Hi, a very useful thing would be to be able to use custom scales or periods.
For example, a day divided by hours is the most use case, but would be great to be able to say:
I divide my day by X parts (ex : 4 parts = Morning, Afternoon, Evening , Night )
Parts that are not necessarily precise hours ( ex: for some persons, morning is 6-8 and others 7-10 ...)

So would be wonderful if we could define an array of X "periods" or "intervals" and use it easily, with a custom scale and this array as option.
