What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. run boinctui
2. select a task
3. press S(suspend) or R(resume)

What is the expected output?
It suspends or resume accordingly.

What do you see instead?
Nothing happens.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2.3.1, on Arch Linux x86_64, with boinc 7.0.65

Please provide any additional information below.
Same thing happens for "Run always" / "Suspend" menu items under "Activity"
menu. When I hit enter on a menu item, nothing happened, no log appears and
when I open the menu again, it stick to the former state.

The task status/log were reported correctly and up-to-date.

If I run boincmgr (the GUI tool provided in boinc package itself) as the same
user, all those suspend/resume thing works as expected on the GUI.

I can't reproduce this issue, sorry. On my ubuntu 12.04 i386 with boinc 7.0.65
(downloaded directly from boinc.berkeley.edu) boinctui work fine.

It look like boinctui can't authorize at boinc client. At this case boinctui
may show all information from boinc client, but can't control tasks/projects
and so on.
Check you password at boinctui side, and in gui_rpc_auth.cfg at boinc client
side. Also you can check file remote_hosts.cfg or --allow_remote_gui_rpc too.

Whoops, thanks for the very helpful tips. I didn't realize that the password
has to be set manually via boinctui's interface... (the boincmgr GUI would read
$HOME/gui_rpc_auth.cfg)
