github token is saved in the .env only once when the workdir is created.
If the user inits again, it is mandatory to pass the token, and if it changes, it is not saved.

It could be either a bug, or a feature, but the UX is not currently ok.
What if the token expired? why forcing to pass a token if it's going to be ignored?
