I believe the fundamental infrastructure of modern communications and business should be built on open standards and open source software.

Open source is especially important when it comes to foundational tools upon which other solutions are built. Linux, Apache, Nginx, Postgres, Node.js... these dominant foundational web technologies are not all open source by accident.

That is why I'm such a big fan of the Medusa project. Medusa provides open source ecommerce building blocks. It is a Shopify alternative that anyone can customize and/or contribute to. My public projects and contributions all tend to relate to Medusa in some way.
