PE653 - ZWave

PE653 Pool Control

This describes the Z-Wave device PE653, manufactured by Intermatic with the thing type UID of intermatic_pe653_03_004. This version of the device is limited to firmware version 3.4

The device is in the category of Remote Control, defining Any portable or hand-held device that controls the status of something, e.g. remote control, keyfob etc..

The PE653 supports routing. This allows the device to communicate using other routing enabled devices as intermediate routers. This device is also able to participate in the routing of data between other devices in the mesh network.

Overview

A wireless electronic controller for pool or spa automation. Retrofit existing mechanical timers or install with new construction. Integrates with home automation software that utilizes Z-Wave wireless technology.

The unit itself is the PE653, which is a control box that directly controls the pump(s) and heater as well as connects to a temperature probe.

The unit also typically comes with a hand held wireless remote (the PE953). In standard mode, this controller is a primary controller that only has the PE653 in a local Z-Wave network. To use this controller in another z-wave network, the PE653 is included in that network and then the PE953 is set as a secondary controller.

This unit has support for 1 and 2 speed pumps as well as variable speed pumps. 

Inclusion Information

Including the PE653 alone is very easy. Put your controller into include mode and the click the include button on the PE 653. 

When you want to continue to use the PE953 as a secondary controller, the process is more involved. You must follow these steps exactly. Also, these steps are for version 3.4 of the firmware only. 3.1-3.3 can still be included (although the controller locks up on Step 9 and must have the batteries pulled to reset), but the command classes are not the same and won't work with this entry.

  1. 953 choose Reset Device {clears the 653}

  2. 653 push Include button {wipes programming, Include light starts blinking}

  3. 953 choose Reset Controller, choose ‘reset net & config’

  4. Put your master ZWave controller into include mode 

  5. 653 push Include button

  6. App should pair and prompt to select name, handler, app, etc

  7. 953 choose Controller Copy {another non-intuitive step, this adds the remote to the master Zwave controller}

  8. 953 choose Receive Net Only

  9. 953 should report ‘Successful’

10.    Put your master zWave controller back into operating mode. For me, this meant plugging it back into openhab and restarting. Do not leave your controller in include mode for the next step, or it won't include

  1. 953 choose Include device

  2. 653 push Include button {one more time!}

  3. 953 should report ‘successful’

PE653 should not show up in Inbox. 

Also, please note that the PE653 will reboot a few times while OpenHab discovers it. This is normal and will stop after a few reboots.

Exclusion Information

Excluding the PE653 alone is very easy. Put a controller into exclude mode and then click the include button.

When paired with the PE953, simply go to the PE953 and choose Reset Device. Then go to the PE653 and click include.

Switch

Switch the power on and off.

The switch_binary channel is of type switch_binary and supports the Switch item and is in the Switch category.

Sensor (temperature)

Indicates the current temperature.

The sensor_temperature channel is of type sensor_temperature and supports the Number:Temperature item and is in the Temperature category.

Clock Time Offset

Provides the current time difference for the devices time.

The time_offset channel is of type time_offset and supports the Number item and is in the Time category.

Switch 1

Switch the power on and off.

The switch_binary1 channel is of type switch_binary and supports the Switch item and is in the Switch category.

Switch 2

Switch the power on and off.

The switch_binary2 channel is of type switch_binary and supports the Switch item and is in the Switch category.

Switch 3

Switch the power on and off.

The switch_binary3 channel is of type switch_binary and supports the Switch item and is in the Switch category.

Switch 4

Switch the power on and off.

The switch_binary4 channel is of type switch_binary and supports the Switch item and is in the Switch category.

Switch 5

Switch the power on and off.

The switch_binary5 channel is of type switch_binary and supports the Switch item and is in the Switch category.

Device Configuration

The following table provides a summary of the 4 configuration parameters available in the PE653. Detailed information on each parameter can be found in the sections below.

The manufacturer defined default value is 1.

This parameter has the configuration ID config_1_2_000000FF and is of type INTEGER.

Which type of pump is being used 0: 1 Speed Pump without Booster/Cleaner

1: 1 Speed Pump with Booster/Cleaner

2: 2 Speed Pump without Booster/Cleaner

3: 2 Speed Pump with Booster/Cleaner

4: Variable Speed Pump without Booster/Cleaner

5: Variable Speed Pump with Booster/Cleaner

6: Reserved 6

7: Reserved 7 Values in the range 0 to 7 may be set.

The manufacturer defined default value is 0.

This parameter has the configuration ID config_1_2_0000FF00 and is of type INTEGER.

Parameter 2: Fireman Timeout

Minutes that pump will continue to run after heater shutoff 255: No heater installed

0-15: Number of minutes for cooldown Values in the range 0 to 255 may be set.

The manufacturer defined default value is 0.

This parameter has the configuration ID config_2_1 and is of type INTEGER.

Parameter 22: Pool - Spa Mode

Controller Mode 0: Pool

1: Spa

2: Both Values in the range 0 to 2 may be set.

The manufacturer defined default value is 0.

This parameter has the configuration ID config_22_1 and is of type INTEGER.

Switch All Mode

Set the mode for the switch when receiving SWITCH ALL commands.

The following option values may be configured -:

2 Include in All Off group
255 Include in All On and All Off groups

This parameter has the configuration ID switchall_mode and is of type INTEGER.

Association Groups

Association groups allow the device to send unsolicited reports to the controller, or other devices in the network. Using association groups can allow you to eliminate polling, providing instant feedback of a device state change without unnecessary network traffic.

The device does not support associations.
